It’s Game Time! The 3 A-RPG I Want to Play Like, Yesterday

Years ago, I fell in love with gaming with Morrowind, and since then, A-RPGs (Action RPG in a word : the player has direct control over the characters during combat phases, contrary to turn-based or tactical RPG for example) have always hold a special place in my heart. Sure, I’ve broadened my horizon and I’ve tested and enjoyed different kind of games – Metroidvanias games in particular – but I’ll always be excited about trying new A-RPGs! So today, I’ll feature the ones that I cannot wait to play (and that I have a chance to try before 2023… We unfortunately lack info about so many: The Elder Scrolls VI, Starfield, Avowed to cite but a few examples).

1. Elden Ring : Dark Souls + Open world + R. R. Martin

  • Developer/Publisher : From Software
  • Release date : TBA 😭

2. Biomutant : Animals (!!!) + Open world + Craft

  • Developer/Publisher : Experiment 101/THQ Nordic
  • Release date : 25 May, 2021
  • Add it on Steam

3. Nier Replicant ver.1.22474487139… : finally a remaster I want to play

  • Developer/Publisher : Square Enix, Toylogic Inc./Square Enix
  • Release date : 23 April, 2021
  • Add it on Steam

That’s it for today! Tell me, what are your favorite A-RPG games?

  1. Oh, I am not a gamer but from time to time I have an urge to pick a game) Recently, I played Little Nightmares on PC. Amazing thing, though a nerve-wrecking one, lol

  2. I really want the next Elder Scrolls game! (Not that I’ve actually finished the main storyline in any Elder Scrolls game so far…) Or Skywind. I would love to have Skywind. (If you haven’t heard of Skywind, it’s a fan re-creation of Morrowind using the Skyrim engine.) It has been in production for ages, and there’s still no release date anticipated as far as I can tell.

I also want Baldur’s Gate 3, though I can’t tell if that’s an action RPG, or more of a straight-up RPG. That one is maybe going to be out this year (it seems there’s an early access version already, but I want the official release).

    1. Skywind 😭😭 I knooooooow, it’s been so long that I had forgotten about it 😭 I’d play Morrowind again on any day, really!

I think they changed Baldur’s Gate 3 mechanics during the early access? It was supposed to be a A-RPG BUT we could pause during combat if we wanted (and I was very excited about that!!! I have yet to try turn-based combat games as they intimidate me a bit) but now it’s regular turn-based combat unfortunately (for me! I know many gamers love that!). I might be convinced to try it though because it looks fantastic!!!

      1. I tried playing Morrowind again recently, but the gameplay mechanics just aren’t as good as I’m used to and so I kept getting frustrated at the game. I’m so sad, I loved that game.

Huh, interesting about the combat changes in Baldur’s Gate 3. If the turn-based combat is anything like the Divinity games (also by Larian Studios) then I think it will be fun and easy to get used to.

      2. I like the Divinity games a lot. (The newer ones, anyway.) I feel like they would be a good way to test out turn-based combat, if you’re unsure if you would like it.
