Hey everyone! I hope you’re having a wonderful day! I’m so glad to have a little time to post today!
Soooo I have been a bit absent, haven’t I? 🙈 I really should have seen it coming, given how busy end of years are, work wise! The last day of school will be on July 6th and until then, I’ve got to prepare my students’ files, rate their last tests… and organize fun activities for them!
During my too-short free time, I’ve been reading and spending —way too much 😂— time on Instagram! Reminder that it’d mean the world to me if you’d follow me there, and I’d love to follow you if that’s not the case already! ❤
What am I currently reading?
2021 is the year of sapphic SFF wins and it makes me SO happy! I’ve just finished The Jasmine Throne by Tasha Suri and you can absolutely believe the hype, it’s fantastic! I haven’t had the time to review it unfortunately —or take any notes during my read, for that matter— but hopefully I’ll be able to in the next weeks! In any case, I highly recommend you read the wonderful reviews of Sahi, Gauri and Azu!
After closing the last page of The Jasmine Throne, I told myself that I’d read a contemporary to change things a bit —I finally got my Illumicrate debut box for Ace of Spades and I can’t wait to read it— so hmmm of course I started Gideon the Ninth because logic has escaped me? I don’t know? Anyway—I’m barely 15% in but I really enjoy it so far! First of all, how in the world did I not know that it would be so funny???? Gideon is a brat and I’m adoring everything about it 😂
About Gideon the Ninth
Author : Tamsyn Muir | Publisher : Tor | Genre : Adult SFF | Buy on Book Depository
The Emperor needs necromancers.
The Ninth Necromancer needs a swordswoman.
Gideon has a sword, some dirty magazines, and no more time for undead bullshit.
Brought up by unfriendly, ossifying nuns, ancient retainers, and countless skeletons, Gideon is ready to abandon a life of servitude and an afterlife as a reanimated corpse. She packs up her sword, her shoes, and her dirty magazines, and prepares to launch her daring escape. But her childhood nemesis won’t set her free without a service.
Harrowhark Nonagesimus, Reverend Daughter of the Ninth House and bone witch extraordinaire, has been summoned into action. The Emperor has invited the heirs to each of his loyal Houses to a deadly trial of wits and skill. If Harrowhark succeeds she will become an immortal, all-powerful servant of the Resurrection, but no necromancer can ascend without their cavalier. Without Gideon’s sword, Harrow will fail, and the Ninth House will die.
Of course, some things are better left dead.
- ALRIGHT, I’ve already mentioned Ace of Spades in my last check-in but what can I say, I’m a mood reader and my TBR always makes a liar out of me, doing whatever????
- I’m so glad that Darling is finally out— Kayla Ancrum is one of my favorite authors and I’ve heard so many great things about it!
- As for Crier’s War, I’ve been dying to get to it since I’ve read Marie’s fantastic review and it’s finally coming to my house this week so YAY! MORE SAPPHIC SFF! 🎉
